Presentation about Japan

I made a presentation about Japan at my son’s preschool.

Hi everyone! Do you know where Japan is? (There is a big world map in the classroom)

Yes, here! (Pointing Japan on the map)

Japan is in East Asia. It's an island in the Pacific ocean.

This is the world map we use in Japan. (Showing another map on which Japan is centered)

Where is the U. S.?

Where is Japan?

The capital of Japan is Tokyo. It takes 12 hours to travel from here to Tokyo by plane.

Japan is the English name, but in Japanese, we call it Nippon. Nippon means “where the sun rises”. That’s why the Japanese flag has a red circle on it; the red circle represents the sun.

In Japan, we have four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. Just like here.

Japan has a variety of foods. But you might be more familiar with tempura, sushi, ramen, and instant ramen. When we eat Japanese food we use chopsticks. (Showing chopsticks)

This is Origami! (Showing a presentation board).

Origami is a traditional Japanese craft that you can make by folding colorful paper. You can make almost anything with Origami! I made all of these things. Pokemon and ninja come from Japan.

I’m not sure but the Olympic Games are supposed to be held in Tokyo. So we made origami gold medals for all of you! (Showing the medals)

One more thing. Harry (my son), how do you say 'thank you' in Japanese?

Arigato” (Harry says)

Repeat after me!

"Arigato" (Everyone says "Arigato")

Thank you for listening, Arigato!

After my presentation, my son talked about Japanese anime and movie characters with some drawings. (Dragonball, Naruto, Power Rangers, and Godzilla)
